Avalanche Awareness

The hazards in outdoor adventure sports are serious and real.  With new developments in technology, advances in forecasting, education and research we can mitigate risks better.

Fostering Athletes’ Dreams and Ambitions.  Raising Avalanche Awareness in the Ski Racing Community.

Bryce Astle, U.S. Ski Team member, 2014 U.S. National Junior GS Champion and top Junior Technical (SL, GS) skier in North America, was in pursuit of his dream to be one of the top five Alpine Ski Racers on the World Cup when he tragically lost his life in an avalanche in Soelden, Austria.
The Bryce Astle Foundation, founded in Bryce’s memory, will help support athletes with the same dedication to racing and love for skiing, along with providing education and support for avalanche safety and awareness.
The foundation is excited to announce a working partnership with Snowbird, the United States Ski & Snowboard Association and the Snowbird Sports Education Foundation.  The goal of the partnership is to build the Bryce Astle Training Facility, which includes a new chairlift and lights, expanded on-hill venue, and improved team building and snowmaking. Together, these facilities will provide the world-class training tools our athletes need to meet their goals and achieve success.

Bryce was the man. He knew how to live and his good energy propelled him to the craziest heights. He relied on spirit and a need to challenge himself which took him to places that few ever go. Bryce was just Bryce, he knew there was limited time to achieve and he spent his time living in the moment. He was a master in the way he carried himself. He taught lessons to so many. His aura is one that will never be matched, but those who knew him know that he’ll never really be gone.
Good vibes only.

Bryce followed his dreams which not so many people can say. He stayed focused and did not let anything get in his way. He was an inspiration to all of you who knew him. Somebody that just sent it in all realms. A smile that was truly contagious!! My brother lived a life in 19 years that everybody dreams of… and you bet that kid had a smile on his face the whole ride. I’ll catch you on the other side brother.

The sudden deaths of Ronnie and Bryce will shake the entire Ski Racing community as it has shaken me.  These are two kids after all, only 19 and 20 years old.  They were funny oddballs, great teammates and fierce competitors.  I have no doubt they would have gone on the race World Cup and beyond.  My heart breaks for their families, for the teammates who witnessed it all and for their coaches.

Ronnie and Bryce were both outstanding ski racers who were passionate about their sport- both on the race course and skiing the mountain. Our hearts go out to the Berlack and Astle families, as well as to their extended sport family. Both loved what they did and conveyed that to those around them.

“In our close group of friends, we all knew out of any one of us, Bryce was going to be the one to make it,” He was in love with skiing. That’s one of the reasons why he was so happy … life is an adventure and he never took any of it for granted.”
Andy Siddoway

My heart goes out to the families of Bryce Astle and Ronnie Berlack.  We lost two outstanding ski racers today.
